The roadblocks by truckers in Antofagasta and Iquique due to the death of the transporter, Byron Castillo, have been the subject of the political agenda during this day. Given this, the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgadoconfirmed that he will travel to the Antofagasta region once the minimum conditions are in place.
The death of the 25-year-old has generated repudiation from the public, since -according to the ongoing investigation- he was thrown down an underpass when confronting Venezuelan citizens, who had previously thrown stones at his vehicle.
During this Friday, meetings have been held between the central government, the regional authorities and the truckers’ unions.

Referring to the situation in the north, the Secretary of State stressed that they are planning measures to “respond precisely to the heartfelt demands of the unions that are currently generating demands, many of them related to security”.
“We are available to be able to travel to Antofagasta to talk with the unions and with the local and regional authorities in this regard. When the conditions are there to do so, obviously the roadblocks, which are currently five in the Antofagasta Region, we would prevent them from arriving,” he added.
“The presidential delegate is in talks with the local unions to be able to arrive, hopefully, at a good port in terms of power, hopefully this afternoon we can move to the Antofagasta Region,” concluded Delgado.
