The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, referred to the request made by the National Prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, to request a report from the Legal Advisory Unit of the Public Ministry after the statements of the leader of the trucking union, Juan Araya, who assured that the government called for a truck stoppage in 2020.
Given the facts, the head of the current cabinet told 24 hours that the National Prosecutor “is within his right” to request the report and that he will await the results of his request.
“The (national) prosecutor has every right to request the report, we will see what his legal team tells him, but for us the most unpresentable thing is that a person, on the air, makes a statement of this type, I mean Juan Araya” Delgado pointed out.
Along the same lines, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security announced the steps to follow, calling Araya’s words “tremendously irresponsible”.
“Look, when a complaint is made, it must be done in a responsible way, with a date, with a document, with audios, with some structure that makes it serious, you cannot make complaints on the air.” Finally, the Secretary of State stated that “we are going to demand that Juan Araya clarify his statements and do so as soon as possible, if we are not even studying the corresponding legal actions,” he said.
