In this regard, he mentioned that the National Police of Peru (PNP) handled these demonstrations “with great care” and stressed that the deceased are not the product of the police response.
“The Police have handled (the protests) very carefully to avoid a social cost. However, There have been three deaths, but not by the Police, but two by traffic accident and one by a child who has fallen into the river and the Police themselves have rescued”, expressed during a press conference this Sunday. However, several witnesses and relatives indicated that the aforementioned minor fell into the river while escaping from authorities.

In this sense, Chávarry highlighted that from the Mininter they regret the deaths produced during the protests in Huancayo. “Our condolences to the families,” she said.
At another point, he pointed out that, although there were demonstrators who marched peacefully, there were “other groups that were using stones” to frustrate the dialogue from the outskirts of the Huanta coliseum.
“There have been alterations, not by the protesters, since they were peacefully protesting. But there were other groups that were using stones. They have knocked down two walls, they have smashed doors because they wanted to enter the coliseum to frustrate the negotiations and try to cause damage,” he asserted.

Finally, the Minister of the Interior explained that there were 15 police officers injured and 22 civilians detained. Similarly, he assured that only tear gas was used by the Police.
“There were no major consequences. We have 22 detainees, three red-handed who were arrested for televisions that they had looted from some stores. The 22 detainees are at the disposal of the Police for investigations with the representatives of the Public Ministry”, he added.
