The Minister of Education pointed out that the issue of bringing forward the elections “is not in the hands” of the Executive, but in those of Congress. “It’s not up to us,” he emphasized.
This December 12, the head of the Ministry of Education, Oscar Becerrawas consulted by the press on the subject of early elections in the framework of the extension of the current legislature of Congress Until next February 17. On this, the head of the Minedu only said that “I would prefer not to interfere in the matter.”
“Just as I don’t like someone telling me what to do, I’m not going to tell them what to do either. (…). We all want the country to be pacified”, he told the press during the supervision of the development of the admission process to the High Performance Schools (COAR).
Given his response, the head of the Education portfolio was asked if the Executiveled by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, planned to stay until 2026. In this regard, Becerra replied that “they do not evaluate, but comply with the rules.” Declaration was given in the framework of citizen protests who demand the departure of Boluarte and the advancement of the elections.
“Right now, we have a constitutional mandate that effectively ends in 2026. There is an initiative, several initiatives, from the President of the Republic herself for this to go ahead (the elections),” he told the media.
In that line, the Minister of Education indicated that the task of advancing the elections is in the hands of the Congress of the republic.
“It is not in our hands to advance it, it does not depend on us, but what is available we will comply with. We must learn to be a country that complies with the rules. We are very fond of changing the rule if I don’t like it,” he said.
