The Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Avila, addressed this Wednesday the Educational Reactivation Plan, announced by the Government on Monday. In this regard, he said that what worries the Executive the most is the “re-involvement of students.”
The plan contemplates three axes: coexistence and mental health; strengthening of learning and assistance and reconnection.

“What worries us the most is the reconnection of those students who lost their connection with their educational centers. Many of them were not enrolled in year 22, being only in year 21,” Avila said in conversation with The Counter in La Clave.
Regarding the departure of students, the Secretary of State explained that “of the 50,529 students who disengaged in year 22, this means that they were enrolled in year 21 and were not enrolled in year 22, there are 26% of them who, according to our records are registered or registered to take, or were, because that already happened, to take free exams”.
“This means that there are many families that do not totally disconnect from educational centers, but rather opt for this training at home. That is clearly a consequence of the pandemic,” he continued.
“In the case of secondary, third, and fourth-grade students, especially in technical-professional training, this is where the students disassociated themselves the most. This can probably be associated, according to what we understand, with care work or going out to the world of work to support the family or directly to self-support,” he added.
emblematic high schools
When asked about the work of the Ministry of Education regarding emblematic high schools, Ávila pointed out that the Government is supporting the Municipal Education Directorate of Santiago within the framework of the Historical High Schools Plan.
This plan contemplates three axes: accompanying the reformulation process of educational projects, infrastructure recovery and security issues.
Regarding the second point, Ávila said that “the emblematic high schools have a significant deterioration that cannot be resolved with municipal resources alone, that is impossible. We are talking about investments of many millions that will allow the recovery of high schools that have 40, 50, 60 years”.
Regarding the third point, security, he pointed out that “there we have made very close coordination with Minister Tohá, with Undersecretary Monsalve, in such a way that educational issues respond to my portfolio and security issues are associated with the management that carried out by Undersecretary Monsalve together with the police”.
“Preparing a Molotov cocktail inside a high school or threatening an adult with gasoline, that is an act of crime,” said the head of Education.
