During her visit to the United States, the Secretary of State, who on April 22 chaired the Development Committee of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, attended a series of meetings with government authorities from around the world. In these meetings, issues related to the economy and the world situation were addressed, among which the impact of inflation and trade integration stand out.
One of the meetings was with the director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. In it, both authorities discussed the importance of commercial openness and integration, as well as trade flows in food and fertilizers, supply restrictions derived from the geopolitical situation, and the disruption of supply chains and their impact on inflation in the countries.
Likewise, Arbeleche met with his Finance counterpart from Indonesia, Sri Mulyani Indrawati. On that occasion, both ministers explored a common agenda between the Development Committee and the G20. In addition, they discussed the importance of multilateralism, the mitigation of the global inflationary effects derived from the pandemic caused by COVID-19 and the invasion of Ukraine, as well as the attraction of foreign investment.
