Given the increase in deportations of Haitian nationals and the negative effect that this has on the labor market in productive sectors such as agriculture and construction, which use this labor, the minister of laborLuis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that the Government carries out actions that allow Dominicans to fill these jobs.
He explained that financing mechanisms have been established to modernize and increase the use of technology in the productive sectors and more than three billion pesos have already been granted in this regard for the agricultural and construction sectors.
De Camps indicated that, to the extent that more technology is used, less untrained labor is used and workers must be more trained.
In addition, he explained that with the National Institute of Vocational Technical Training (Infotep) and home builders and agricultural producers they have been developing training programs so that Dominican workers can fill those available vacancies.
“This is to maintain and increase productive capacity, while nationalizing work more and at the same time creating better employment conditions,” explained the Minister of Labor.
Regarding the question that Dominicans are not employed in these sectors because they pay very low salariesresponded that since 2020 there have been increases in the real salaries of workers in all areas.
De Camps indicated that one of the elements that will improve with the proposal to reform the law to the Labor Code is the regulatory strengthening of the ministry, and this would allow companies to be able to hire more Dominicans and help put themselves in order. .
