The Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, stated this Thursday that the agricultural sector of the Dominican Republic is being impacted by the increase in Haitian deportations. However, he noted that the Government is implementing measures to mitigate the situation.
«Yes it has affected, but we are looking for solutions. We also have to think about mechanization, we have to think about solutions that can mitigate the situation,” said Limber Cruz.
He pointed out: «It is not something that is going to happen from today to now or tomorrow, because we have many years depending on labor and, obviously, there are crops that, even if you want to mechanize them, are not so easy. For example, coffee, which is in the mountains, is very difficult to mechanize, and so there are other products.
Likewise, the minister of Agriculture He announced that tomorrow, Friday, he will meet with the Immigration Committee, to which he belongs, to discuss the issue.
‘I hope that positive things come out of it,’ said the official, while emphasizing: “Yes, there are many products that have been affected.”
