Mininter goes to retirement on the right hand of Harvey Colchado

The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Rojas Herrera, decided to retire —as of January 1, 2023— the largest PNP David Medina Guillén, a member of the Special Team that supports the Prosecutor’s Office in investigations against corruption in the government of former President Pedro Castillo and right hand of Colonel PNP, .

The decision was adopted by Ministerial Resolution No. 1790, signed on December 23, where it is stated that the reason is “for the cause of renewal of cadres.”

The older Medina is known by his colleagues as ‘Aquiles’. And, as part of the Special Team, he has participated in important operations, such as the capture of the former head of the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), José Luis Fernández Latorre; and even yesterday he was the one who arrested the ex-commander general (r) Javier Gallardo.

SIGHT: On November 22, Colonel Colchado requested the ratification of his personnel in charge, including ‘Aquiles’.

For the former Minister of the Interior, Rubén Vargas, this decision causes “concern”. As he commented, there are statements and “good intentions” in the Government Palace and the management of President Dina Boluarte in the fight against corruption.

“However, your Interior Minister has just discharged the PNP major, who is the coordinator in charge of investigating the generals (implicated in corruption due to promotions). He decided to give that older man a great lesson in honesty and professional work within the Police. We need the president to correct such an injustice,” Vargas said in dialogue with Peru21.

“Here there is clearly a political decision by the Minister of the Interior,” he added.
