MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Ministry of the Interior (MININT) confirmed the finding of the lifeless body of the Camagüey taxi driver Guperto Rafael Cánovas Adán, a fact that had been reported since Wednesday by various users on social networks.
According to the brief note from MININT, Cánovas Adán’s body showed signs of violence.
“The deceased, who was 72 years old, was reported absent from his home since February 3, and was found on the morning of Wednesday, the 8th of that same month,” the information points out.
It also indicates that “the alleged perpetrators were detained in Havana and they seized the car that had been taken from the victim.” At this time they are criminally prosecuted and will be made available to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Among those who had reported the murder to the taxi driver was the Cuban journalist José Luis Tan Estrada.
“Unfortunately, Guperto Rafael Canovas Adán, who had been missing since this Friday, was found dead. (…) Today the people of Camagüey mourn another victim of this wave of violence that has no end. Rest in peace. Enough already. Not one more,” Estrada said from Facebook.
During the last days, also in Camagüey, the 17-year-old adolescent Leidy Cod She was the victim of a femicide, at the hands of her ex-partner and at the Camalote Popular Council police station, in the municipality of Nuevitas.
In the same province, Yudel López Álvarez was also killed, who was reported missing on February 1 and later found lifeless.
The man, the father of two teenagers, was murdered to steal his cell phone and the rickshaw with which he worked. Liuty Álvarez, a relative of the victim, wrote on his Facebook profile: “He was found dead in Camagüey by two scum, two rotten souls without a heart, without feelings, without knowing that they were leaving a destroyed family.”
