Mining: northern regions received more than S/777 million for canons and royalties

The regional and local governments of the northern macro-region, made up of Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura and Tumbes, received more than S/777 million for of mining activity in 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

The region that received the largest transfers was La Libertad, with more than S/375 million, while Cajamarca was in second place, with more than S/357 million.

The transfers of resources corresponded to the concepts of canon, royalties and right of validity and penalty. Of these three, the mining canon accounted for more than S/600 million, while mining royalties contributed more than S/130 million.

To a lesser extent, there was the right to validity and penalty, with S/46 million.

It should be noted that, last year, the aforementioned transfers totaled S/10,947 million nationwide, and only in the case of the mining canon, these reached S/7,844 million, 166.1% more than the amount registered in the 2021 period.
