Mining investment will reach US$7 billion this year

Mining profits grow 52% in third quarter

The mining investments will reach US$7,000 million this year with eight large projects, reported the Minister of Energy and Mines (Minem), Luis Enrique Bravo.

During an interview with TV Perú, the official recalled that until November of this year, the disbursement in the sector already exceeded US$5,133 million. In the coming weeks the amount at the end of the year would be known.

Likewise, he highlighted that the projects that would come out this year would be located in Arequipa, Cusco, La Libertad. Likewise, he highlighted the contribution that the sector has had, through which resources of S/9,936 million have been generated for municipalities and regional governments for fees, royalties and validity rights.

“Mining has generated 286,805 direct jobs, and this figure increases from one month to the next. And I must also highlight that a total of 23,799 positions occupied by women in the mining subsector have been reached, 8.3% of the total employment generated,” he added.

Regarding the fight against illegal mining, he highlighted that he is working intensively to purify the Reinfo and assured that the Government has toughened sanctions to include benefit plants that process mineral obtained illegally.

“We are interested in working and leaving an important percentage of progress before completing our government, so that the next administration could complete this process without further haste,” commented the official.
