Mining exports fell 21.5% in July due to lower volume and commodity prices

The exports Peruvian exports in July 2022 were US$2,559 million, which reflected a drop of 21.5% compared to the same month in 2021 (US$3,261 million), reported the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE).

However, in the period from January to July of this year, mining exports amounted to US$22,207 million, which represented an increase of 2.7% compared to the same period in 2021 (US$21,633 million).

Copper and gold: shipments plummet

The SNMPE detailed that copper exports totaled US$1,203 million in July 2022, a figure that meant a decrease of 27.1% compared to the same month of 2021 (US$1,650 million).

He explained that the drop in copper exports recorded last July was due to a lower price of this metal (17.9%) and because the volume fell by 11.2% compared to the same month last year.

Meanwhile, gold exports reached US$718 million in July 2022, which meant a decrease of 19.3% compared to the same month of 2021 (US$889 million).

Exports of this precious metal were affected by the 16% drop in volume, while its price fell by 3.9% compared to the same month in 2021.
