Mining, agribusiness, agricultural production, the manufacture of agricultural machinery and construction were the activities that drove the ten departments of the country where private registered employment grew the most in the last two years, in relative terms.

The Church department, in San Juanled the improvements with employment growth of 15.6% between 2019 and 2021, according to a ranking released by the director of the Center for Production Studies, CEP XXI, Daniel Schteingart.

In second place was the region of Magellan, in Santa Cruzwith a rise of 13.6% explained by mining and construction, followed by Calingasta in San Juan (+10.3%) which was also driven by the same items.

In Santo Tome, Corrientes, the 9.9% increase in registered private employment was driven by the forestry sector; Meanwhile in May 25, in Chacothe rise of 9.5% was explained by the jobs in soybeans, cereals and livestock.

Speaking to Télam, Schteingart stated that “the pandemic generated differences in the sectoral and territorial spheres, greatly complicating sectors such as tourism, or areas dependent on office work. On the other hand, there are other sectors that are already above 2019, such as a part of agriculture, industry, mining, construction.”

“The specialization profile of the districts explains to a large extent why some districts are better than in 2019 and others have not yet fully recovered,” added the director of the Study Center that depends on the Ministry of Productive Development.

Schteingart explained that “the ranking is based on relative variations, which tends to place the smallest towns at the top.”

On the other hand, “if measured by absolute variation, the ranking changes and larger districts appear, such as Rafaela in Santa Fe, Malvinas Argentinas in Buenos Aires or Río Grande in Tierra del Fuego, among many others,” concluded the sociologist.
