Minha Casa, Minha Vida is expected to hire 2 million homes by 2026. The government has resumed hiring with some changes to the program, including the subsidy ceiling and income range.
In the case of tier 1, a group that includes families with lower income, the monthly income served increased from R$ 1.8 thousand to R$ 2.64 thousand. In bracket 2, the limit was raised to BRL 4,400, and in bracket 3 to BRL 8,000.
In an interview with the program The Voice of Brazilthe Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, explained that the change will make it possible to extend the benefit to a greater number of families in accordance with the readjustment of the minimum wage.
Jader Filho also said that the financed properties should be on land close to urban centers, so that residents have access to a health clinic and school, for example.
According to Jader Filho, the goal of 2 million housing units will be distributed based on the housing deficit in regions and states.

The government increased the subsidy limits for housing under the program, with R$ 170,000 for housing units in cities, operated with Social Arreamento and Social Development funds; R$ 75 thousand in rural areas, operated with Union resources; and R$ 40,000 for improvements in units located in rural areas, with federal funds.
The subsidy is the part of the financing paid by the government with Union resources and funds.
The ceiling can be increased in case of installation of a solar energy system or requalification of the property for housing purposes.

According to the minister, work on more than 11,000 housing units has been reactivated and around 9,000 homes should be delivered by the end of April.
“When we arrived, we had 186,000 active contracts. Of these 186 thousand, there were 83 thousand paralyzed units. We worked with several ordinances, dialogues with municipal and state entities, we managed to resume more than 11 thousand works that were paralyzed. Works stopped for more than 10 years, ”he said.
So far, according to the minister, six thousand families have received housing. “People who live on rent, on the streets and in risk areas, they are in a hurry”, he pointed out.
