MINGOB will establish digital payments and collection after agreement with Mastercard

The Ministry of Government and Mastercard established an alliance to strengthen and modernize payment systems in public institutions in the country. The agreement is mainly focused on developing joint work to search for digital payment and collection solutions for the modernization of the services provided by the dependencies of the Ministry of Government.

It was up to the Minister of Government, Roger Tejada Bryden, on behalf of the Panamanian government, and Mr. Germán Rosón, country manager for Mastercard Panama and Belize, to sign the new agreement.

This agreement will benefit the dependencies of the Ministry of Government such as the Panama Post Office, the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System, the National Civil Protection System, the Regional Logistics Center for Humanitarian Assistance, the National Office for Refugee Care and the Governors. Likewise, other institutions are expected to join in the future.
In his introductory speech, the Minister of Government, Roger Tejada Bryden, spoke of the benefits of the agreement, highlighting the new work ties based on cooperation and collaboration that will be developed jointly between MINGOB and Mastercard. In addition, he pointed out that the agreement is part of the modernization process of the Panamanian State and that it will contribute to the MINGOB agencies to develop digital payment and collection solutions, integrating into the world of technology.

For his part; Germán Roson, country manager of Mastercard Panama and Belize, pointed out that Mastercard is working to expand the digital payments ecosystem in all types of businesses, government institutions, services and infrastructures, to make possible an inclusive digital economy that works for everyone without exception. By partnering with the Ministry of Government, they demonstrate the impact that can be achieved when the different sectors work together to generate inclusion, not only financial, but also social.

These agreements are viewed positively by citizens, due to the high value generated by multinational companies for the benefit of the national economy through the generation of jobs, the economic strengthening of Panamanian families and the transparency of the country. This is the fifth memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of Panama and Mastercard, reiterating their commitment to Panama’s digital agenda.
