Miners in Bolívar denounce threats after claims for the right to work

Around 900 miners from the La Gran Bendición de Dios mine, in the Roscio municipality, Bolívar state, denounced the imposition of measures that prevent them from working in mining, in addition to threats from the municipal authority

Since last week mine workers The Great Blessing of God demand a meeting with the mayor of the Roscio municipality, Wuihelm Torrellaswhom they denounce for breaking promises and for threatening and intimidating them after the claims made by 900 miners who live in the area.

“The La Gran benediction of God mine has become a problem for many people who believed the word of Mayor Wuihelm Torrellas on December 9, when he told us not to mine for food today and hunger for tomorrow, and that Let’s work for a future mine. We did that, we invested in the construction of a mine and day after day new rules and laws were made that pushed the mining town to the limit”, recounted a miner.

The workers of said mine demand their right to work and that their investments be guaranteed, since they maintain that they are all attached to the law.

Among the irregularities that are being committed, and that prevent mining work from continuing, they mention: overpricing of explosives, abuse of small-scale mining, unjustified closure of verticals, abuse of power by the technical and managerial staff of the mine, excessive charging of percentages to the miner without guarantee of services, imposition of company crews when the miner obtains good material.

They also denounce the refusal to provide support to the company’s team “even when they charge the miner everything he needs to work”, disrespect for the agreements, overpricing of all the inputs they are charged for, and “loss of time, stoppage of the mine, lack of production, licensing, mistreatment”.

“We want to work, advance, guarantee our investment because we are experienced miners who demand our right to decent work without abuse of power,” reiterated one of the complainants.

Miners are prohibited from entering the area. No work at the moment until they can meet with the burgomaster.

Until now, the mayor of Roscio has not ruled on the claims and complaints made by the miners.
