Miners confront their executive and call him submissive and late due to Colquiri’s demand

The Colquiri Mining Workers Union reacted against its top executive, also a miner Juan Carlos Huarachiwho was accused of being submissive and partial to power for reacting too late regarding the conflict they have with the Government and decree 4783.

Pointing out an error that they are committing is not a crime, rather we believe that among the working class, more than anything in the union field, there always has to be constructive criticism to be united and thus fight for our interests”, declared the general secretary of this union, Joaquín Mamani.

Since Wednesday, September 28, the workers of this mining center they came out to block the La Paz-Oruro highway demanding the abrogation of decree 4783 that mandates that state companies remit to the General Treasury of the Nation (TGN) the profits they achieve and that this money be used in productive projects or in the payment of social bonds, an aspect that was rejected by the workers. Until then, the top executive of the Central Obrera Bolivia, Juan Carlos Huarachi, had not spoken, and he did so this Monday, when the Government had already announced the decision to repeal the controversial decree.

Mamani said that they conducted their own analysis of the decree and concluded that it was attack on the interests of the mining company because they consider that the TGN will not return the money that is remitted to their accounts and defended the fact that this company always contributed to the social policy of the Luis Arce Government.

“Unfortunately there are certain gaps, the minister said that we have not wanted to enter into a discussion of the content of the decree and accuses us that Colquiri does not want to share his profits. Totally false, we have always contributed every yearthis decree is not new, there is already a law for us to contribute and contribute”, said Mamani.

What the miners are looking for, he said, is that the decree establishes how much the contribution will be and that the profits continue to be available to the same companybecause that was the only way to continue growing after the nationalization of mining.

At this time, a meeting of all the mining unions in their federation is being held to agree on a single position. in the meeting they will hold with the Minister of Economy, although it is not known when and at what time they will meet with the Executive. Joaquín Mamani warned that if the Government does not repeal the decree until tonight, the blockades on the La Paz-Oruro highway will return at midnight.
