The governor of Durango, José Rosas Aispuro, considered it unfair that the mining-metallurgical sector is one of the economic sectors with the highest tax burden in the country, even though it is an enabler that prevents the expulsion of people in the communities where it develops its productive processes. for job creation and social benefits.
When inaugurating the VII Durango Mining Congress 2022, organized by the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico, Durango District, Governor Aispuro considered it convenient that the rest of the productive activities in Mexico pay taxes similar to those provided by the mining.
José Rosas Aispuro recognized the support that the mining sector has given to Durango: “I am sure that the efforts they are making will generate better conditions for development.”
In Durango, he said, we have four mining projects in the process of being installed; there are 23 mines formally operating; We have mining activity in 18 of the 39 municipalities and we have promoted the installation of more mining clusters.
For his part, the president of the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (AIMMGM), Luis Humberto Vázquez San Miguel, acknowledged the support given by the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, and Governor Aispuro Torres to this sector, which makes him the first governor in the country to meet the requirements of the industry and boost activity for the national economy, so he gave him a recognition during the ceremony.
He specified that the VII Mining Congress is an opportunity for the AIMMGM to offer the knowledge of its mining affiliates, geologists and metallurgists to promote mining activities for the benefit of society in general, “we are the gear that drives these activities for the benefit of the humanity,” he said.
Luis Humberto Vázquez San Miguel said that the tragic events of the El Pinabete mine in Coahuila overshadow the actions carried out daily by the formal industry, for that reason he suggested that the federal and state governments force informal and illegal mining companies to comply with the laws and regulations governing large mining companies.
“Those that endorse safety and training as a principle to continue fighting towards responsible mining with the environment,” he added.
The president of the Mining Chamber of Mexico (Camimex), Jaime Gutiérrez Núñez, highlighted that this body has encouraged the development of the sector with public policies at the national level:
“With the leadership of the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, we are promoting a round table with the governors of five mining states, which represent 84% of the country’s production, to promote a public policy on responsible mining that encourages investment and exploration.
He said that mining generates jobs and is one of the industries that pays the most taxes, “only in the last seven years, mining has contributed more than 240,000 million pesos in taxes and other rights.”
The president of the Organizing Committee of the VII Mining Congress, Ramón Dávila Flores, commented that the event is significant because it represents the modern mining industry, sustainable and committed to the country.
