Santo Domingo.- With the distribution of 12 million textbooks and 250 thousand seats in public schools, as well as the incorporation of more than 1,000 new classrooms into the system, the Ministry of Education (Minerd) is ready to start the 2024-2025 school year on the 26th of this month.
Added to this figure is the repair of 650 rural schools that had been without assistance for decades.
The Minister of Education, Angel Hernandezsaid that the National Institute for Teacher Welfare (INABIE) distributed more than 1.0 million kits with school supplies in public schools, with an investment of RD$5,000 million.
Each one contains pants, polo shirts, shoes, backpacks, socks, notebook and pencils.
This school term, the new uniform will come into effect, consisting of light blue polo shirts and navy blue trousers with white socks.
In addition, the backpack has been improved with the logo adjustment in a concealed area and space for tablets and water thermoses.
In the case of the initial level, the backpack has a drawing notebook and colored pencils.
“Students will have the necessary supplies to attend classes from the first day and have a successful school year in public schools,” said Minister Hernández.

They also distributed more than 142 thousand records to teachers of all grades.
Grade records are key instruments used by teachers to record attendance and assessment processes of students with the aim of verifying progress in the development of their curricular skills during the training process.
Hernández stressed that the registration books arrived at schools in February and March and are now available to teachers before they begin teaching.
The next school year will have 193 working days, equivalent to 41 teaching weeks for students and 44 weeks for teachers. The end of activities is scheduled for June 20, 2025, and for teachers on June 27, 2025, according to resolution 10-2024, issued by the Education Council.
