The Ministry of Education (Minedu) suspended in-person classes in seven schools in Huánuco after the huaico that affected more than 2,200 students in Amarilis, Pillco Marca and Huánuco.

The institutions were flooded with water and mud due to the intense rains, and cleaning work is being carried out with the support of the community and the Regional Government.

The general director of Decentralized Management of Minedu, Carlos Castilla, indicated that they are working together with the UGEL and the Pronied to rehabilitate the classrooms and resume classes soon.

“Contact was made with the Pronied (National Educational Infrastructure Program) with whose personnel the supervision is carried out, as well as with the UGEL Huánuco and directors working together to collect accurate information”, he pointed out.

Minister of Housing, Durich Whittembury, evaluates declaring a state of emergency in Huánuco

The Minister of Housing, Durich Whittembury, reported during his visit to Huánuco that the cleaning work after the intense rains is progressing and it is estimated that it will take about four days to clear public areas and exteriors of homes.

The mud has entered many homes, which has required the help of the Police and the Army. In addition, declaring a state of emergency in Amarilis and nearby areas is being evaluated to activate bonuses of S/500 monthly for two years, helping families to temporarily relocate.

Whittembury also highlighted the need to reinforce machinery and preventive work in the face of the next rains.
