The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) have agreed to carry out joint work for the construction of the airport in Pichari district (Cusco), around the area of the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers (VRAEM).
“Probably in the next few days we will have meetings with the regional and local authorities to start the construction of the airport in the city of Pichari.”, announced the head of the Mindef, José Luis Gavidia, at a press conference after a session of the Council of Ministers.
This is the first meeting held by the new Ministerial Cabinet, led by Aníbal Torres, after its reorganization announced by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, due to the resignation of the questioned Héctor Valer.

According to Gavidia, this work will be part of the “Uniting peoples” program, which seeks to allow the most remote and isolated populations to connect with the main communication routes.
“The agreement and the request of the majority of the regional governments has been that we start with the VRAEM. This will allow us to meet all the needs and even be able to reduce the problems of illegal activities in that region.”, added the minister.
“[Tenemos que] look for the improvement and especially for the expansion of the Pichari Airport runway, but also work on the connection of bridges in such a way that people can pass through and above all boost the economy of the VRAEM”, said the Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva.
