Colombia is one of the 10 Latin American countries most vulnerable to climate change, according to the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index. Precisely, sustainability is one of the flags of reindustrialization, the promotion and creation of small and medium-sized companies and their integration into value chains, which we promote from the Government of President Gustavo Petro”, explained the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Germán Umaña Mendoza.

This project, as announced by the Ministry, It had an investment of 1,180 million pesos, and it will be available to all companies that are in the country. In addition, this project seeks to attract the attention of corporations that are in the regions most affected by climate change in Colombia.

Green Productivity is the first of the programs we have to help companies take that step towards sustainability and contributes to our purpose of responding to the particular needs of the regions and their social and economic development, recognizing their heterogeneity and the reality of its productive matrix”, added the minister.

The program focused this initiative in three approaches: mitigation, adaptation and bioeconomy. In the first one, it is sought reduce the emission of greenhouse gases thanks to technology, create renewable energy sources, implement measures to improve the efficiency of old equipment and monitor the carbon footprint and improve operating practices.

(There are 70 renewable energy projects in Colombia in 2 years).

In the second, it will seek to implement measures for companies to substantially reduce the damage caused by climate change in terms of productivity, infrastructure, business relations and consumption.

In the third point, the idea lies in consolidating projects to take advantage of biodiversity and biomass to make bioproducts and value-added processes, based on sophistication and knowledge.

The climate crisis and the non-sustainable use of biodiversity impact the productivity and profitability of companies. Analysis of Colombia Productiva shows that up to 40% of its production costs are due to costs for the consumption of natural resources. These impacts also include direct losses in assets, profits, and human capital; and indirect losses related to its suppliers and customers. With Green Productivity we seek to reduce these impacts, so that companies are more efficient, generate greater added value and reduce their vulnerability to the climate crisis.”, mentioned Aurelio Mejía, general manager of Colombia Productiva.
