The Minister of Agriculture, Cecilia López Montaño, met this Monday with the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higginsin a meeting prior to his participation in the 13th edition of the OECD Rural Development Conference where he will hold an agenda that includes participation in panels and bilateral meetings in which issues for best practices and political actions for rural regions will be discussed of the world.

“This meeting was essential to deepen the links between Colombia and Ireland, a country from which we have much to learn in terms of technological developments for modern agriculture and livestock. Colombia is interested in learning the lessons about the dialogue that allowed peace in Ireland, because dialogue is a priority of the National Government. President Higgins is also very interested in the conservation strategy for the Amazon exposed by President Gustavo Petro before the United Nations General Assembly last week”, said the minister from Áras an Uachtaráin, the Irish presidential residence.
Regarding the academic agenda of the conference, Minister López will be in charge of the conference “The new vision of the agricultural sector”, which is part of the panel Rural development and peacebuilding in Colombia and Ireland. This interventionn is scheduled for this Monday at 1:30 pm (Irish time).
On Wednesday, Minister Cecilia López will be part of the main table of the plenary session of the panel “Responding to short- and long-term impacts: Building more resilient rural places.” This space will be moderated by the Irish Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.

“Along with the academic commitments, we will have bilateral meetings with high-level officials in which we will present the five major commitments of the government of President Gustavo Petro to transform the countryside: compliance with the comprehensive rural reform, the incorporation of peasant, Afro-descendant and indigenous communities to that transformation, regeneration of ecosystems, promotion of productive chains and sustainable transformations according to each context”, highlighted the minister.
