In the framework of a debate in the Seventh Committee of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cecilia López Montaño, celebrated the approval of an additional 2 billion for the budget of the agricultural sector in 2023.

“This will mark a historic change in the life of the country and in the closing of the rural gap with the urban one”assured the portfolio manager.
The increase corresponds to 96.6% of what was initially requested. “The execution is going to be very challenging for a Ministry and some institutions that have been marginalized, without much support and now they have become the axis,” assured López.

Similarly, the minister maintained “that in the last two years the average budget for the sector was $1.2 billion, which indicated the little importance given to it.” In contrast, she highlighted that agriculture obtained the largest budget addition: “that is an expression of the priority that President Gustavo Petro is giving to this commitment.”
Finally, he pointed out that the challenges of this Government in the agricultural sector are carry out agrarian reform; with turning Colombia into an agri-food power; achieve environmental justice, social justice and total peace.
