The former governor of Nueva Esparta, Alfredo Díaz, died after showing “symptoms compatible with a myocardial infarction,” the Ministry of Penitentiary Service reported in a statement.
This situation arose this Saturday morning, being helped by his fellow inmates from the Center for Prosecuted, Sentenced and Female Annexes of the Metropolitan Area of Caracas.
The statement from the Min-Penitentiary states that, after learning of the situation, said emergency was attended to by the emergency specialist and paramedic on duty from the unit located in the aforementioned prison establishment.
But, “due to his health condition, he was transferred to the University Clinical Hospital where he was admitted and when trying to stabilize him, he unfortunately died minutes later.”
The statement states that “in light of this unfortunate event, we extend our most sincere words of condolence to his family, relatives and friends.”
Díaz, leader of AD, governed Nueva Esparta between 2017 and 2021 and was arrested on 11/24/24 for alleged instigation of hatred, among other crimes. «He was being processed, with full guarantee of his rights, in accordance with the legal system and respect for human rights and his legal defense. “This is evidenced through videos and corresponding records,” indicates the document published on the Instagram account of the Penitentiary Ministry.
