This Saturday afternoon, the mining leader and former minister Milton Gómez Mamani died, after his health deteriorated due to a disease that had afflicted him for years.

President Luis Arce Catacora was one of the first to express his condolences for the death of the Oruro leader, that on September 26 he had turned 74 years old

“It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of brother Milton Gómez, a great historical union leader and ex-authority of our Plurinational State. His example of struggle for the rights of the working class will endure over time. Our heartfelt condolences to his family,” Arce wrote.

Milton Gomez Mamani He was born in Challapata, Eduardo Abaroa province, in the department of Oruro. According to data from the Chamber of Senators, which paid tribute to him in June 2021, the leader He began his union career in 1969, when he started working at the Avicaya Mining Company, where he began as a mining camp cleaner. Later he was a mine laborer and driller.

In 1980Milton Gómez was a candidate for the Federation of Miners. In 1982 was part of the Trade Union Federation of Mining Workers of Bolivia (FSTMB), being his mentor the historical leader of the Bolivian Workers Central (COB) Juan Lechín Oquendo.

He was also a leader during the March for Life, in August 1986, when 12,000 mine workers marched to La Paz. against relocation.

Later he became Minister of Mining and Metallurgy for five days in 2010, during the second government of Evo Morales. Years later, in 2019 he was again summoned to be Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Welfare, during the third government of Morales.
