Milly Lacombe: "Football will be the last place where machismo will end"

Football for gender lenses will be the main theme of the upcoming Dr com Degori program, which welcomes columnist, commentator and sports journalist Milly Lacombe. In the interview, the writer reflects on her personal and professional career, talks about episode that lived as “cancellation” on social networks and comments on the challenges of being a woman in the universe of football – half sports intrinsically linked to machismo, misogyny and sexual abuse, she said. The attraction will air at 23h this Tuesday (29), on TV Brasil.Milly Lacombe: "Football will be the last place where machismo will end"

Considered one of the main female names of sports journalism, Milly Lacombe has a career marked by pioneering. In the conversation, the commentator recalls the controversy with the player Rogério Ceni, in 2006, during a Sportv program, in which he accused him of falsifying a signature in an arsenal proposal. “A woman, when she misses, does not miss alone, but by the genre. So, I did not miss alone. It was as if they could finally justify the idea that we cannot like football,” he recalled.

At the time, although he recognized the error, the professional suffered several threats and curses, which led her to move away from the journalistic coverage of football for a while. Lacombe identifies as machismo the episode he faced, but also explains how he dealt with the situation: “Of course there was a reaction to my mistake, but the original mistake is mine. If I don’t appropriate it, I won’t go anywhere, get it?”

The various experiments in the area has provided an in -depth understanding of women’s experiences in sports journalism. “Football will be the last space where machismo will cease to exist. It is a very concentrated and powerful means. A stronghold of misogyny,” he says. In addition, the interviewee discusses how different gender socializations manifest themselves in football. “Men are built as opposed to being a woman,” he laments.

The journalist also evaluates that current football is based on a neoliberal economic agenda. “It has become a spreadsheet, everything needs to have cost and benefit. This objective analysis is everything but football,” he concludes.

DR with Demori is also available in full on YouTube and the TV Brasil Play app. The program is still broadcast in audio simultaneously on MEC radio, and interviews are available in spotify podcast format.
