Pereira Rossell Hospital commemorated its 20th anniversary
The acting President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, headed the ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the Human Milk Bank of the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center, held yesterday, Monday 9th.
A commemorative stamp was presented on the occasion. During the period mentioned, more than 30,000 litres of milk were delivered to a similar number of newborns.
Also present were the interim Minister of Public Health, José Luis Satdjian; the president of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE), Marcelo Sosa; the director of the Women’s Hospital, Risel Suárez; the vice president of the Uruguayan Post Office, Julio Silveira; the head of the Álvarez Caldeyro Barcia Foundation, Daniel Estévez, and the representative of the Human Milk Bank, Manuela di María.
During the event, Argimón praised the contribution of donors to the development of premature babies through the Milk Bank and recalled the work of the aforementioned foundation, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. He also highlighted that, when a mother requires it, she can use the service anywhere in the country. Sosa, meanwhile, stressed the importance of preventing premature births through timely medical check-ups.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Human Milk Bank, a philatelic stamp was presented at the same event.
The purpose of the service is to assist mothers who are unable to provide complete nutrition to premature newborns during the breastfeeding process. The institution provides pasteurized human milk from donors to babies on medical advice throughout the country.
Each year, approximately 2,500 litres are processed, which are consumed by the same number of newborns. In addition, throughout its history, the bank has processed and delivered more than 30,000 litres of milk to more than 30,000 babies in the National Integrated Health System (SNIS).
