Military Forces investigate possible hacking by group called 'Guacamaya'

Colombian authorities are investigating the possible theft of information from the General Command of the Military Forces (FF.MM.) which, apparently, was perpetrated by a group of hackers known as Guacamaya, which last month leaked emails with sensitive national security information from Chili.

The FF.MM. Colombian authorities detailed in a statement that through a publication on social networks, their command had knowledge of “the possible extraction of information” by the “self-styled Guacamaya hacktivist group.”

“Immediately (once) the security event became known, the technical protocols for the review and mitigation of incidents established for these cases were activated,” the information added.

Therefore, the Military forces they are carrying out “an analysis of the situation” and a detailed review of the “information exposed in order to determine the circumstances of the manner, time and place in which these events would have occurred.”

“This situation will be brought to the attention of the competent authorities so that they carry out the legal actions that may arise and determine responsibleexplained the Military forces.

Last month, more than 400,000 emails from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (EMCO)an advisory body of the Chilean Ministry of Defense made up of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, were leaked in a massive and unprecedented way, including some considered “secrets” and “ultra secrets”, in a hacking action, carried out by the Guacamaya group.

The cyberattack cost EMCO chief General Guillermo Paiva his job, and he had to resign after the news broke.
