Canophilic binomials: the role of military dogs
The history of dog training is something recent, or that shows records of Sedena. In 1968, the Secretariat entrusted to units of the Military Police Corps within the Mexican Army the task of training personnel and dogs for military purposes.
For this, the training of the armed forces of other countries were taken as a reference.
In 1987, the Sedena authorized the creation of canophilic sections, which were included in the organic template of the Military Police Battalions. The objective was to be in a position to attend emergencies in which they are required of canophilic binomials, a term to refer to the team between a dog and its coach.
1998 was an important year, since the Mexican Army and Air Force (CPCEFAM) was created on February 1, which marked a precedent in the process of acquiring, reproduction, selection and genetic improvement of canine cattle of the Secretariat of the Sedena.
For the genetic improvement of dogs, the canine production center acquired 29 dogs of the following nationalities:
- A national rottweiler
- Three German shepherd, a Belgian shepherd Malinois and a Rottweiler from Germany
- Ten German shepherd and six Belgian pastor Malionois of France.
- Seven Belgian shepherd Malinois of Belgium.
On September 16, the Military Police School was created, initially at the facilities of the 1/A. Military Police Brigade, within the Military Field No. 1-A, the school depended technically and administratively on the General Directorate of Military Education and Rectory of the University of the Army and Air Force and operationally of the Military Police Corps.
The Military Police School began with the training of company dogs with the name of canophilic binomials belonging to the Mexican Army and Air Force. Until May 1, 2022 he remained with that name, and changed his name to the Military Police training center, technically and administratively depending on the Military Police Corps.
In recent years, actions were carried out to increase dog production, since genetics has important properties for the army. In 2018 it was possible to increase production from 145 to 300 puppies
And from 2019, the breeding of the Belgian pastor Malinois was standing in the quota of 145 to 300 per year.
