Milagros says Medusa case is proof of an independent MP

The General Director of Ethics and Governmental Integrity, Milagros Ortiz Bosch, maintained that the filing of the complaint in the Medusa case is the strongest proof of the independence of the Judiciary and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

Interviewed on the Despierta con CDN program, Ortiz Bosch highlighted the Government’s commitment to ensure the independence of justice.

Regarding the case of the Minister of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla, for the involvement of a family business in the Medusa case, the director of Ethics and Government Integrity stated that, “unlike all previous cases, it is a minister who does not is directly involved in the accusation of the Public Ministry, but rather a son of his.”

He described the decision to pause the administration of Minister Macarrulla as of great importance, because it gives the opportunity to see the climate in which the government chaired by Luis Abinader is managing.

“It is a climate of principles and rules in which we all feel committed to giving way to investigation and law. There is one very important thing that I will say without fear of criticism… I lived in the time of Trujillo how parents had to disassociate themselves from their children to satisfy the regime. There is a need here to give integrity a space to express itself. A government cannot prevent the application of a conduct in which we all participate, ”he said, referring to the temporary departure from the Government that Macarrulla has requested.

He added that this action is an indication of how the ministers accompanying President Luis Abinader are made up. In the opinion of the official and senior leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), what is happening is the result of an electoral process whose first vision is respect for institutions, the recreation of democracy and, above all, respect for the rule of law. .

Likewise, he said that the most important thing is to confirm to the bottom that there is not a single government official who dares to participate or ask the courts for attention without consequence, “because the independence of Dominican justice is already a fact to any price”.

In relation to the direct participation of Lisandro Macarrulla in the construction of Nueva Victoria, through the company Mac Construcciones, Ortiz Bosch declared that during a visit he made to the official to discuss the matter, he had told him that the case had already he was in court, which is why he did not continue investigating.

Domain Forfeiture Law

Referring to the Asset Forfeiture Bill that is currently in the National Congress, Ortiz Bosch stated that the people who will be affected by the law will begin to cheat, to manipulate it and take advantage of the enforcement of its execution.

Noting that there is a problem of corruption in the country that must be seen in its real dimension, she specified that the Domain Forfeiture Law is designed to attack illicit capital, a crime that, according to her, does not exist anywhere in the world.

It affirms that due process must be respected

When asked if she was surprised by the accusation of the Public Ministry in the sense that the construction companies of Nueva Victoria had paid a bribe of up to 20% of the real value, despite the fact that Macarrulla had denied it so far, the The official reiterated that the commitment to due process must be maintained and that requesting a license is a fact that deserves public recognition. “In each case, we did what is established by due process, which is our role. And above all, keep the thread thin,” she added.
