Mijaín López says that “there must be a change soon” in Cuban sport

We have lost many talents. Emigration has been part of all those things that are happening. The training centers have deteriorated.”

For the athlete, the turn must be immediate: “There must be a change soon, because we are starting an Olympic cycle and it is already being seen that there is deterioration in Cuban sport.”

Questioned about the need to open up to professional schemes – as the attempt according to the major baseball leagues (MLB) in 2018, canceled a year later -, he replied without ambiguity: “Yes, I think so. I think you have to look for openness, to reach our sport in Cuba.”

Later he stressed the loss of opportunities for athletes competing on the island: “We have lost our athletes in the part of creating Sponsorsthat athletes are known in brands, in all professional aspects, as in the entire world (…) ”.
