Santo Domingo.- The presidential candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado expressed his full support for the opinion adopted by the Dominican Bishops’ Conference, which last Wednesday urged legislators to reintroduce the Penal Code Bill in this extraordinary legislature and to to be debated in the next ordinary legislature.
The president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) expressed his support for the approach of the Catholic Church in the country by participating in the first work meeting this year at the National House of the organization he leads.
The meeting was attended by the provincial presidents, support links, as well as the PRD regional and subregional directorates of the entire national territory.

This meeting also marks the resumption of party work ceased for the Christmas holidays.
Vargas Maldonado agreed with the Dominican Episcopate in considering that it is urgent to provide the actors who fight crime and violence in the country with legal instruments with sufficient “claws”, in addition to providing the necessary instruments and equipment to guarantee efficient public policies on the matter. of citizen security.
“It is obvious that the moment is opportune to unite efforts and give clear signs of democratic maturity, as the church has summoned us; as a party, we categorically assume these proposals of our bishops”, stated Vargas.
“We demand that the leadership of the National Congress overcome the delaying conduct with which it has dealt with the issue of the Penal Code, under discussion for more than 20 years,” he continued.
He pointed out that “it is time to move from only considering emergencies and seriously addressing the important issues that affect the country.”
The activity highlighted the massive presence of the National Directorate of the party.
