In the letter, he requests that quit your job as professor of professional practice in international affairs and public at Columbia University, United States.
“As is public knowledge, you requested a license for about 18 months at Columbia University (…) to accept the position of Minister of Finance and Public Credit. Likewise, Turbay assures that after the approval of the tax reform, Minister Ocampo “has a political responsibility”. Along with this, he writes that “it is striking that you impose such a harmful reform for the Colombian people and then leave the position of Minister of Finance to return to your daily activities, as if nothing had happened.”
Therefore, the senator demands that accept the responsibilities and consequences of the decisions that were made during the debate and what the approval of the tax reform implies.
“Do not abandon ship when the other year, due to inflation and the rise of the dollar, the country is plunged into an unprecedented crisis“, he assures. Uribe also emphasizes that it is important that Ocampo renounce the license that the institution has given him.
It should be remembered that Columbia University gave the Minister of Finance a little over a year to serve as head of the portfolio and then go back to fulfilling their academic commitments.
