Miguel Pizarro says that it is a mockery of the Foreign Minister to say that 60% of migrants have returned

Miguel Pizarro, commissioner for the United Nations (UN), criticized Nicolás Maduro’s letter, read by Foreign Minister Carlos Faría, during the 77th session of the General Assembly. Contrary to the return of migrants, indicated by the Foreign Minister, Pizarro underlines that, in August of this year, UN agencies updated the figures of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, reporting that there are 6.8 million worldwide

Miguel Pizarro, Commissioner for the United Nations Organization (UN), criticized Nicolás Maduro’s letter, read by Foreign Minister Carlos Faría, during the 77th session of the General Assembly.

Pizarro warned that the official lied when talking about the situation of Venezuelan migrants.

«Carlos Faria, Maduro’s foreign minister, mocks the UN and the entire international community when, in the General Assembly, he dares to say that ‘60% of Venezuelan migrants have returned to the country.’ The world is aware of the migrant and refugee crisis that Venezuela is experiencing,” Pizarro pointed out on Twitter on the night of Saturday, September 24.

Likewise, the opposition leader maintained that, in August of this year, UN agencies updated the numbers of refugees and migrants Venezuelans, reporting that there are 6.8 million worldwide.

“Every day thousands of Venezuelans risk their lives to flee Venezuela in search of opportunities that the regime denies them,” he stressed.

In Maduro’s letter, which the foreign minister Carlos Faria read before the UN, it is noted that Venezuelan migration is “induced” by “acts of piracy” against the country, which “has left deep wounds in society.”

“Nothing is said about the 60% of the Venezuelan population that emigrated and returned fleeing the ill-treatment they are subjected to in other countries of the world (…) We are the only country in the world that has a repatriation policy through the state Conviasa, which is sanctioned, “said the official on Saturday 24.
