Former presidential candidate Miguel Mora published on his social networks an image of his wife, the journalist Verónica Chávez, and their son, on a plane. The post reads «Thank you to all who express their blessings to us and join us on this day of joy. Be the honor and glory forever and ever to our God».
Mora’s relatives boarded the plane this afternoon at the Managua airport to travel to the United States and meet with former political prisoner Miguel Mora. They travel under the benefit of humanitarian parole. The family had been waiting for this reunion since last February, in which the former candidate was banished.
His son Miguelito Mora did not see him, according to what was expressed by relatives, since the journalist and former presidential candidate was incarcerated in the El Chipote prison, where they authorized his son to visit him.
On social networks, members of the Nicaraguan opposition and exiles share the happiness of the Mora Chávez family for their reunion in the United States, where the former director of 100% Noticias has lived since he was expatriated.
Miguel Mora was imprisoned from June 2021 to February 2023. During that period, he was able to receive a visit from his son only due to pressure from activists, human rights defenders, the media, and international personalities. His wife had little access to the facilities of the police complex «Evaristo Vasquez» known as « the new chipote» in Managua. This is the first time they will get close after two years of forced separation.
