Miguel Mora is on hunger strike for 53 days demanding a “special visit” with his son

Journalist Miguel Mora Barberena has been on a hunger strike for 53 days from the cells of the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua. With this action, the political prisoner demands that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo allow him to see his son Miguel Mora Chávez, 21, who suffers from a motor disability.

His relatives demand that “the constitutional right to see his son, his son Miguelito, be respected. Miguel also demands a bible”, they refer. The relatives of the prisoner of conscience are concerned about Mora’s physical condition and fear for her life after more than two months of strike.

Mora has been imprisoned for 421 days in “El Nuevo Chipote” since his arrest on June 20, 2021. Ortega’s justice system accused the journalist of allegedly conspiring “to undermine national integrity” and the Second Criminal District Judge for Trials of Managua, Nadia Camila Tardencilla, sentenced him to 13 years in prison.

According to his relatives, in the last visit to the political prisoner they were able to observe that he had lost more than 30 pounds due to poor nutrition and captivity, a situation that continues to worsen due to the food restriction that Mora maintains.

Faced with this situation, this medium consulted a specialist in clinical psychology, who explained that there are emotional situations that “no matter how many therapies the person receives or how much emotional support from the family, if the stressor element is not removed, that is, if the person is subjected to the same stress factor, this can cause permanent psychic damage to mental health.

«Adaptive reactions are temporary, but when they last over time, they can generate permanent damage to the emotional state; it can generate anxiety, depression and other types of alterations, even more serious, ”explained the expert on condition of anonymity.

The journalist was subjected to attacks, cyber harassment by supporters of the regime, and the equipment, frequency, and facilities of Canal 100% Noticias were confiscated. Since the end of 2018, he was imprisoned for the first time for six months in the Jorge Navarro prison system in Tipitapa, known as “La Modelo”, he is currently being held captive for more than a year in “El Nuevo Chipote”.
