The journalist and once again a political prisoner Miguel Mora-Barberena he received a visit from his relatives on December 24, at the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, in Managua.
This was the second consecutive visit in the month of December that the Police at the service of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo granted to the hostages of conscience, due to the Marian, Christmas and New Year holidays.

Verónica Chávez, wife of the former presidential candidate, told Article 66 that there were four hours of visiting and that “for the glory of God Miguelito was able to see his father —Miguel Mora—. He added that Miguelito Mora Chávez was happy with his father; «You cannot imagine the joy, the joy of being together. His father fed him; – to Miguelito -. The boy did not stop showing him the skills that he has learned, the tasks, the numbers, among other things, “Chávez described.
“You can already imagine the moment of happiness that we together with Miguel -Mora- lived, prayed together, sang, cried, hugged each other,” added the also journalist.
In the “special” visit that the Ortega and Murillo regime allowed, they were able to be present Helper Barberena, breast of the owner of the confiscated television channel 100% Noticias and his other children. “Miguel’s mother is a woman of faith, she prayed for him, she anointed him with oil,” Mora’s wife said.
Demand for release persists
Regarding the confinement that Mora has lived for more than 18 months in the “Nuevo Chipote”, Verónica Chávez expressed that “nobody who is in jail is well; We know that there is a lot of suffering there, but he is resisting.
«Physically -Miguel Mora- he is stable, but above all his faith is unshakable; always with hope and faith in God that he will soon come out of that place of sadness, pain and confinement where he is unjustly,” he added.

He stressed that at Christmas parties what all the relatives of the more than 230 political prisoners demand is immediate release. «I keep hoping that in this year that has not yet ended I can —the Nicaraguan government—deliver our relatives to their homes. We continue to wait for that moment in God, so that that freedom may be given.
He also explained that Mora thanks “the” Nicaraguans who pray for him, because he knows that there are many people bending their knees and praying for political prisoners, for peace in Nicaragua, for reconciliation, love. Miguel sends to say that we do not stop praying, to believe God, that above all things God is the one who has kept them and has them firm and resisting.
After the visit, the officers of “El Nuevo Chipote” reminded the journalist’s relatives that on Saturday, December 31 and January 1, there will be another family visit for all political hostages. “We hope that Miguel will be released that day, that would be the best dream come true. In the name of God we continue to pray for that,” Chávez stressed.
This was the third time that Miguelito Mora was able to see his father —the first was on August 20— after the Nicaraguan dictatorship denied him the right for more than a year in captivity.
Mora Barberena has been imprisoned in “El Nuevo Chipote” since June 20, 2021, in the framework of the Nicaraguan presidential elections. The former candidate for the Presidency was sentenced by the judge of the Second Criminal Trial District of Managua, Nadia Camila Tardencilla to 13 years in prison, allegedly for conspiring “to undermine national integrity.”
The journalist was subjected to attacks, cyber harassment by supporters of the regime, and the equipment, frequency, and facilities of the 100% Noticias Channel were confiscated. Since the end of 2018, he was imprisoned for the first time for six months in the Jorge Navarro National Penitentiary System, in Tipitapa, and was released on June 11, 2019, under the controversial Amnesty Law.
