Mexico City.- The Cuban dictator Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived this Saturday in Mexican territory, where he was received by the Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Shortly after 8:30 AM, the Cuban president was in the state of campeche.
As usual, and although he does not hold any political position that justifies his presence, the wife of the dictator Lis Cuesta accompanies him on every trip abroad.
“It is very satisfying, a great honor, to receive him here in Campeche, in our country, which is his, in his capacity as a worthy leader of the people of Cuba,” AMLO said upon arrival.
“You, president, are for the government that I represent, for the Government of Mexico, a distinguished, admired and fraternal guest,” said López Obrador.
AMLO, who has avoided talking about the Cuban political prisoners and the repression, even when openly asked about it, did call for the lifting of the embargo, as he has done before.
“The United States government must, as soon as possible, lift the unfair and inhumane blockade against the people of Cuba,” he said.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel will receive this Saturday from his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the Aztec Eagle order. This is the highest decoration that Mexico gives to a foreign Head of State.
The official announcement, published yesterday, reports that they considered granting him such a high distinction due to the recent rapprochement between the two governments. This has materialized above all in the health sector with the sending to Mexico of Cuban doctors and one of the vaccines produced on the island. As well as the reception in Cuba of hundreds of medical students to study different specialties.
This is Díaz-Canel’s fourth trip to Mexico, and like previous ones, it is especially symbolic. The first time he set foot on Aztec soil was during López Obrador’s inauguration ceremony in 2018. He was then invited with honors during the military parade commemorating Mexico’s independence two years ago.
In AMLO, the Cuban dictator has found a faithful friend who buys him vaccines, hires doctors, sends ships with help and even orders the export of stone from Cuba (despite the fact that it is abundant in the Aztec country).
