The Director General of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, warned that despite the aggressive attitude of illegal Haitians against agents and inspectors of the agency, raids and arrests will continue throughout the country.
“We will continue to arrest illegal foreigners under the protection of Law 285-04, which governs our immigration system in the country, always respecting human rights,” the official said.
It was reported that during the course of this month of August, at least fourteen Immigration agents They have been victims of aggression by Haitian illegal immigrants during interventions in the National District, Santo Domingo Este, La Romana and Higüey, respectively.
Last Sunday in the Buenos Aires sector of Herrara, three Immigration agents were attacked with sticks, stones, bottles and even bites by Haitians, for which they had to be treated in local hospitals.
One of the immigration agents, identified as Marcos Ramírez Guzmán, received several bites from Haitians when the foreigners were loaded onto a truck to be taken to the Refuge Center in Hiana, San Cristóbal.
Ramírez Guzmán’s other two companions, identified as Sandy Yan and Manuel Bisonó, were also attacked with bottles and stones by the foreigners, for which they had to receive medical attention.

“Despite the attacks, we will continue to enforce Law 285-04 that governs our immigration system and under no circumstances will we stop the raids,” warned Venancio Alcántara.
Haitians, Venezuelans, Colombians and other nationalities detained for residing illegally in the country are taken to the Shelter and Collection Center where authorities arrange their deportations.
Sometimes, even the General Directorate of Migration has to allocate resources to cover the expenses of illegal foreigners for their deportation to their respective countries, according to reports.

Several Haitians clashed with police officers in an incident in the community of Sabaneta, in Jarabacoa. Local representatives say that shots were fired during the incident when the illegal immigrants confronted the patrols. The attack began with stones and shots, which forced a rapid response by police officers.
