The states where the 16,096 migrants were rescued were Baja California, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Mexico City, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tabasco , Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Yucatan and Zacatecas.
The INM also reported that given the increase in people in irregular transit through the country and the dangers to which they are exposed by migrant smugglers, as well as the low temperatures that can put their lives and health at risk, the authorities determined increase open-door care centers for this population in the states of Aguascalientes, Chiapas, Durango, Hidalgo, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, and Zacatecas.
This Monday, the INM reported the rescue of 337 migrants transported in four buses that evaded a checkpoint and tried to flee in the state of Veracruz.
The authorities detailed that 134 people from Nicaragua, 105 from Guatemala, 55 from Ecuador, 18 from Cuba, 13 from El Salvador, eight from Honduras and four from the Dominican Republic were traveling irregularly on the buses.
It was found that 43 minors (15 women and 28 men), as well as 196 adults (139 men and 57 women) were traveling alone; while 98 people were in 32 family units.
