Migration detains undocumented Haitians in DN sectors

Gobierno entrega 47 camionetas a instituciones de rescate y seguridad

An intense operation to locate, capture and transfer undocumented Haitian immigrants was carried out this morning by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in the sectors of Cristo Rey, Agustina and Villas Agrícolas, where dozens of undocumented immigrants were detained and put on a truck. sow after it was found that they did not have the required documentation.

The operation began at 6:00 am, less than 24 hours after President Luis Abinader announced a national plan for the repatriation of illegal Haitians in the Dominican Republic that would have the objective of deporting about 40,000 illegal immigrants each month and was made up of a truck sow, a double cabin truck and a motorcycle, in addition to dozens of immigration and intelligence agents from the National Army.

Some of the detainees from inside the truck, between tears, sobs and complaints, showed documentation claiming that they had identification cards and permits. The officers, for their part, said that in many cases, the documents they show are false or expired.

According to the protocol of the DGM All detainees are taken to the Detention Center for Undocumented Migrants in Haina, a place authorized to establish the immigration status of each detainee and from there determine whether they are released or sent directly to the border to be handed over to the authorities of the neighboring country.

During the operation, the members of the DGM were seen detaining people only because of their skin color, asking them for documentation and, if they did not have it or it had expired, they were searched and they were put in disposable handcuffs (tairrá) and put into a van or motorcycle to take them to the mobile jail.

Overpopulation

It has drawn the attention of citizens that regardless of the number of undocumented Haitians who are repatriated daily by the DGM, the streets of Greater Santo Domingo and the provinces of the country appear full of illegals of that nationality who move at all hours to carry out their everyday activities. So it is evident that this action is not giving positive results, since in the National District or in the province of Santo Domingo men, women and children without papers walk from one place to another, not only doing business or working, but in many other daily activities.

Abinader

The Dominican Government yesterday announced an “immediate execution” plan that aims to repatriate 10,000 undocumented Haitians every week, in a new measure to try to control irregular migration from the neighboring country and a warning to the international community.
