Migrants who attacked a Senafront in San Vicente, Darién, are provisionally detained

Eight migrants, who caused damage to state property and injured a unit of the National Border Service, were provisionally detained.

After their arrest was legalized and they were charged with the crime against economic assets, in the form of aggravated damage, and against freedom and personal integrity, in the form of personal injury, to the detriment of the State and a unit of SENAFRONT, the Darien Regional Prosecutor’s Office obtained the precautionary measure of provisional detention for the eight foreigners.

According to the prosecutor of the Early Decision and Litigation Section, Simey Cortez, she requested the precautionary measure based on the procedural risks such as the danger of flight, since the accused entered the country irregularly, and the risk of neglect of the process, as well as the serious nature of the crime.

The event occurred on June 6, 2022, at the Migratory Reception of San Vicente, province of Darién, when the eight migrants who wanted to continue on their way, but had to comply with the migration verification process, in addition to paying for transportation and these They refused to comply with the requirements.

The eight defendants also threw stones and blocks at the police units, threatening them with death, alleging that they belonged to a criminal gang in Venezuela.
