Citizens of three nationalities (Honduras, Cuba and Haiti) make up 55.9 percent of refugee claimants in Mexico.
The Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (Comar) reported the receipt of 77,786 petitions, as of last August.
In fourth place are people from Venezuela and in fifth, from Nicaragua, both with less than 10,000 procedures so far this year.
The accumulated figure for August is the second highest of the year.
Most of the procedures are carried out in the offices located in Chiapas, although just over 10 percent are received at the Comar headquarters in Mexico City, which reveals a mobility of migrants, from their border point of entry, or arrival by air to the capital of the country.
Since the first statistical record on the matter, in 2013, the year with the highest number of requests has been 2021, with an explosive level close to 130 thousand procedures.
In 2020, the list of applicants was headed by migrants from Honduras; in 2021, from Haiti, and currently Hondurans return to the first place, which for this year total 20 thousand 235 applications, followed by Cubans, with 12 thousand 898, and Haitians, with 10 thousand 392.
Nearby, Venezuela with 8 thousand 282; Nicaragua, 6,921, and El Salvador, 5,132. Below are Guatemalans, with 3,297 cases; Brazilians, 1,698; Colombians, 1,592, and Senegalese, 1,040.
Comar reported the positivity rates (applications accepted for the person to have recognition of refugee status and, therefore, of the protection of the Mexican State).
The highest is for citizens of Venezuela, with 94 percent of admitted cases; that is, only six out of 100 are rejected; They are followed by Honduras (91 percent) and El Salvador (89 percent).
However, the average positive rate of all nationalities is 60 percent, on average, although many can also remain in the country under the figure of complementary protection.
