Seven days after the traffic accident involving a bus carrying migrants of different nationalities in Gualaca, Chiriquí, the regional Ombudsman’s Office inspected the Miraculous Medal Home where the survivors will be transferred upon receiving departure order, after receiving medical attention.
According to the Ombudsman’s Office, this inspection is carried out in the interest of guaranteeing the human rights of the migrants who were traveling on this bus.
According to Mónica Chavarría, Chiriquí regional director of the Ombudsman’s Office, this Wednesday the place that will receive them was verified, which is in good condition, as well as their access to health and other needs such as psychological care for children and adolescents.
“Until now, a Venezuelan migrant has been discharged and admitted to the Miraculous Medal Home in David, the Ombudsman’s Office will be monitoring their human rights conditions daily,” he said, stating that it is managed together with international organizations such as IOM, HIAS, UNICEF and others; the support required both for the migrants traveling on the bus and their families, Chavarría said.
