The Ministry of the Interior (Migob) eliminated, through two ministerial agreements published in La Gaceta, another hundred Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), 80 of national origin and 20 foreign. During the nine months of 2022, the Ortega regime has annulled 2,107 NGOs.
The foreign organizations banned this Thursday, September 29, are from the United States, Honduras, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Venezuela, Panama, Norway, Costa Rica, Italy and Germany.
These are the 20 organizations to which Migob canceled their registrations and perpetual numbers assigned by “being abandoned and having between eight to 29 years of non-compliance with their obligations in accordance with the laws that regulate them”, furthermore, they did not register as foreign agents.

Among the illegal national organizations are the Madriz Association for Children’s Rights, the Dando Amor Reintegramos Foundation, the Boaco Department Retirees’ Association, the “Lago Azul” Foundation for Social Development, among others. Here see the complete list.
The state entity, led by Maria Amelia Colonel Kinloch, points out to the Nicaraguan NGOs not to report for periods of six to twenty-seven years on their boards of directors, being headless, financial statements according to fiscal periods with detailed breakdowns of income and expenses, trial balance, detail of donations —origin, provenance and final beneficiary — and identity and origin information of all its members and donors.
As of this month, the Migob has been in charge of canceling the NPOs through the publication of ministerial agreements in the official newspaper, La Gaceta. The previous annulments were made by means of a decree initiative, which the Parliament, dominated by the Sandinista Front, approved without any type of discussion.
This is due to the reform of Law 1115 or the Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations, approved last August, which empowered the Migob “the authorization, regulation, operation, dissolution, liquidation and cancellation of NPOs, national and other nationalitiesthrough (a simple) Ministerial Agreement”, without any type of mechanism for those affected to appeal the decision to close them.
Universities change their legal status
The University of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast (URACCAN) and the Blufields Indian and Caribbean University (BICU), registered as non-profit organizations, changed their legal status becoming community and intercultural universities, according to a ministerial agreement of the Migob, published this Thursday in La Gaceta.
