The Ministry of Regional Integration and Development (MIDR) recognized an emergency situation in 21 cities affected by disasters in the states of Amazonas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
After recognition, city halls can request resources from the federal government for civil defense actions, such as purchasing basic food baskets, mineral water, meals for workers and volunteers, home cleaning kits, personal hygiene and dormitories.
Requests by municipalities in emergency situations must be made through the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2iD).
To date, São Paulo has 17 recognitions in force, of the nine for windstorms, four for intense rains, two for hail, one for fires in residential clusters and one for landslides.
The municipalities of Caetité, Itarantim, Lauro de Freitas and Macaúbas, in Bahia, were hit by heavy rain; Conceição do Castelo, in Espírito Santo; Barra do Ribeiro, in Rio Grande do Sul, Dolcinópolis, in São Paulo, and Luiz Alves, in Santa Catarina. The cities of Juranda and São Sebastião da Amoreira, in Paraná; Petrolândia, in Santa Catarina, and São Manuel, in São Paulo, were hit by hail.
The municipalities of Esperança do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul, and Xanxerê, in Santa Catarina, obtained federal recognition of emergency situations due to windstorms and tornadoes, respectively, while the cities of Carauari, in Amazonas; Juazeiro and Tremedal, in Bahia, and Umbuzeiro, in Paraíba, experienced drought.
In São Paulo do Potengi, in Rio Grande do Norte, the emergency situation was recognized due to drought, which is a period of absence of rain that is longer than drought.
The city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Pernambuco, suffers from the effects of coastal/marine erosion, while the city of Altamira, in Pará, is in a forest fire emergency.
FGTS withdrawal
Some municipalities with a recognized emergency situation also entered the list of locations where workers can request withdrawal from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) due to calamity.
Residents of the cities of Itarintim and Macaúbas (BA), Conceição do Castelo (ES), Barra do Ribeiro (RS), Luiz Alves and Petrolândia (SC), Jaranda and São Sebastião da Amoreira (PR) and Dolcinópolis and São Manuel (SP) will be able to request the benefit, until the beginning of March 2026.
According to Caixa, it is necessary to have a balance in the FGTS account and not have made a withdrawal for the same reason in less than 12 months. The maximum amount for withdrawal is R$6,220.00 per linked account, limited to the balance available in the account, and the request can be made through the FGTS Application.
