The Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (MIDIS) in coordinated work with the Juntos programs and the PAIS National Program, more than 140 thousand Peruvians in vulnerable situations received their National Identity Document (DNI) for the first time.
In this regard, the Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, Lesly Shica, He stressed that guaranteeing identity is a priority for the sector. “The DNI is not just a document, it is the gateway to the exercise of fundamental rights. From Midis we are reaching the territories where historically the State was not present, so that no one is excluded,” he stated.
Having a DNI is key to access basic services such as health, education, social programs and others state benefits. In rural, Amazonian and highland communities, where distance and economic limitations make this process difficult, obtaining an identity document represents an opportunity for social inclusion and recognition as citizens.
In the case of Together programit was possible to promote the identification of 128,665 girls and boys under 24 months of age, who now have their DNI, an essential requirement for their incorporation into the program and to ensure their timely access to essential services during early childhood.
“Identifying our girls and boys from their first months of life is a key action to break the cycle of poverty. With identity, we guarantee their early access to health, nutrition and social protection”said Minister Shica.
Likewise, so far in 2025, the Juntos program has supported 305,466 users in obtaining new DNI and updating this document, thus strengthening their access to State rights and benefits.
These results are possible thanks to the strategy “Identity for Inclusion”, a territorial intervention that articulates efforts with RENIEC and local actors, with the aim of guaranteeing the right to identity and reaching more households in situations of poverty and extreme poverty.
For his part, the PAIS National Programin conjunction with RENIEChas played a key role through the Itinerant Social Action Platforms (PIAS)bringing the delivery of DNI closer to remote communities in regions such as Loreto, Ucayali and Puno.
In Loreto, more than 8 thousand people obtained their DNI for the first time; in Ucayalimore than 2,500 residents accessed this document; while in Fistmore than 800 users benefited during the campaigns developed by the PIAS.
“The PIAS are a concrete example of a State that is closer to the people. We prevent families from having to spend time and money on long trips, bringing services directly to their communities”stressed the Midis owner.
This service is part of the more than 43 thousand attentions of access to identity provided in more than 410 communities, also allowing more than 30 thousand people to renew their DNI, register newborns or update personal data, without affecting the family economy.
