After a year and a half at Olympique de Marseille (France), midfielder Gerson is back at Flamengo, the team for which he was champion of the Copa Libertadores (2019) and Campeonato Brasileiro (2020). The player, who also acts as a defensive midfielder, is the first reinforcement of the Rio de Janeiro team for the 2023 season. Considered a joker on the pitch, Gerson, 25, signed a contract until December 2027.

Born in Belford Roxo, Baixada Fluminense, Gerson started his first spell at Rubro-Negro in mid-2019, joining the most successful squad of the club in recent years. In addition to Libertadores and Brasileirão, the red-black “joker” lifted the cups of the Supercopa do Brasil (2020 and 2021), Recopa Sul-Americana and Campeonato Carioca. In April 2021, the player had the pass sold to Olympique for approximately 25 million euros (R$ 144 million).
Gerson was revealed by Fluminense’s base categories. In 2016, when he was 19 years old, the player changed the Brazilian fields to play for Roma (Italy). Two years later he was transferred, on loan, to Fiorentina for one season. After this period he returned to Rio de Janeiro to wear the red-black uniform for the first time.
